FLO 375mm POD Wood Handboard - Cedar and Walnut Bodysurfing Handplane

The FLO 375mm is a solid cedar and walnut POD® bodysurfing handboard and the largest model in the wooden handboard range. Its 375mm x 218mm planing surface provides maximum lift and hold for bodysurfers riding stronger, more demanding conditions.

When wave energy increases, control becomes the difference. The FLO works with your position, trim, and timing, helping you hold speed, stay stable under pressure, and maintain your line through powerful sections.

Each FLO handplane is an individual piece. Natural variations in grain and colour mean no two boards are identical.

Where the FLO Works Well

The FLO suits experienced and advanced bodysurfers who are already comfortable positioning themselves in stronger conditions and want a board that supports that level of commitment. The additional surface area supports cleaner entry, improved balance, and sustained hold as pressure builds.

  • Experienced and advanced bodysurfers riding larger or more powerful waves
  • Increased stability when wave energy builds
  • Consistent hold through open faces and critical sections
  • Maximum surface area for control under load

Cedar and Walnut - POD Wood Construction

Like all POD wooden handplanes, the FLO reflects decades of refinement in both material selection and structural design. A solid walnut centre acts as a structural stringer, delivering strength and resistance to torsional load, while lighter cedar wings contribute controlled flex and responsiveness.

This combination allows the board to remain stable under pressure while still adjusting cleanly as conditions change.

Each handboard is produced through CAD design, precision CNC machining, laser engraving, and careful hand finishing. Natural variations in grain and colour ensure every board is unique.

Palm Support, Strap System, and Bottom Shape

Every POD wooden handboard is shaped to work with a natural swimming position while managing load efficiently through the water.

  • Ergonomic palm support: A convex deck supports the natural curvature of the hand, reducing fatigue and maintaining a relaxed swimming position. The hand sits directly above the pivot point and keel fin, allowing the board to work with your movement rather than against it.
  • Purpose-built strap system: Custom 50 mm retainers secure a wide 65 mm double-padded neoprene strap. This distributes pressure evenly across the hand, improving comfort and maintaining a secure, stable connection during higher load situations.
  • Hydrodynamic bottom shape: A deep 20 mm concave with an integrated keel fin works with water flow to support lift, directional control, and cleaner movement across the wave. This helps you stay higher in the water and maintain speed once engaged.

Care and Longevity

Proper care ensures your wooden handboard continues to perform and age naturally.

  • Strap adjustment: Set the strap snugly once. For regular use, slide your hand between the strap and palm support to preserve Velcro longevity.
  • Protective storage: Supplied with reusable packaging foam and hemp drawstring cover for impact and moisture protection.
  • Avoid excess heat: Do not leave the board in hot cars or direct sunlight. Heat affects timber and protective finishes.
  • Inspect and maintain: Check for signs of wear and recoat with marine-grade satin when required.

Heat warning - do not leave wooden handboard in sun or hot car

Your Partnership with the Board

The FLO is for moments when the wave has more energy and less margin for error. It responds to your position, your timing, and how you engage with the water.

In return, your POD® original will support control, stability, and consistent flow through more demanding conditions.

A Legacy of Bodysurfing Design

Since the 1980s, POD founder and designer Shane Vassallo has shaped and refined handboards - bodysurfing handplanes, hand planes, and handboards across cedar, walnut, and limited timber species. That design lineage spans over 35 years of hands-on experimentation in real surf conditions and is documented in Successful 30 Years.
