POD Fin Heel Pads and Ankle Protection

The POD Heel Pads wrap around any swim fin strap and attach with hook-and-loop closure. Four millimetre neoprene cushions the heel and ankle, closes the gap on a loose or irritating fin strap, and keeps your fins where they belong in heavy whitewash.

For riders who also want an ankle strap retention system, the POD Swim Fin Savers and Heel Protectors - ONE-Strap uses the same 4mm neoprene heel pad design, plus an additional webbing strap with a 4mm padded neoprene cuff that wraps comfortably around the ankle.

4mm Neoprene - The Difference You Feel

POD uses 4mm neoprene on its heel pads. Anything thinner compresses quickly and doesn't provide consistent ankle cushioning. Four millimetres holds its form, fills the heel properly, and stays effective from the first wave to the last. POD has built its fin saver, handboard hand and wrist straps, and surfboard and bodyboard leash cuffs from 4mm neoprene for over twenty years. That has not changed.

The heel pad has no screen-printed grip surface, and that is deliberate. A rubber fin strap already applies grip and presses around the back of the heel and ankle. A printed grip on the pad would add a second layer of pressure points against the skin, which works against the comfort the pad is meant to provide.

POD's surfboard leash cuffs do carry a grip print, because a leash cuff sits on the ankle without a rubber strap stretching and forcing down on it. On the heel, plain 4mm neoprene does the job it was designed to do.

What They Do
