Handcrafted for the Water. Protected While You're In It.
The POD Original Handcrafted Cedar Handboard and Long Sleeve Rash Guard pair a limited-production timber handplane with a rash guard made for long hours in the surf. Each cedar board is individually numbered and hand-coated in marine varnish, and on the wave it builds on the lift from your hand and holds your line across the face. The rash guard covers your torso and arms in UPF 50+ Lycra, with 3mm wear-resistant ripstop panels from elbow to wrist that take the scrapes when a wave drives your arms into the sand.
POD Original Handcrafted Cedar Handboard
Run your hand across the deck, and you'll feel the finish first, smooth and satin. It comes from at least eight coats of marine varnish, each one sanded lightly before the next goes on, building a hard, water-resistant shell over the cedar. Beneath it is select-grade Australian cedar, shaped by POD founder Shane Vassallo, who has hand-made these boards since the late 1980s.
No two turn out alike. The timber's grain, colour and weight shift from board to board, and Shane numbers each one to record its character and the year he shaped it. A black neoprene drawstring bag keeps it safe between sessions.
In the water, the convex deck cups your palm in a natural hold. Underneath, the concave hull and keel fin guide water along the board, adding to your hand's lift and holding it high on the face instead of sliding down. The shape also sends spray away from your face, which helps on a long session when you want a clear view of the next section.

POD Long Sleeve Rash Guard - Wear-Resistant Elbow Pads
A heavy set can roll you around before you know which way is up. The rash guard stays put when it does. A non-slip rubber waistband grips at the hip, and a 10mm loop ties it to your board shorts, so it won't ride up no matter how hard the wave turns you over.
Your forearms usually hit the sand first, so the padding goes there. 3mm ripstop panels run from each elbow to the wrist to take the scrapes, easing pressure on your arms and reducing wear on the fabric.
The rest is heavyweight UPF 50+ Lycra with flatlock seams, covering your torso and arms against the sun. The nylon-neoprene pattern fabric stays soft on your skin through the longest bodysurfing sessions.
