WOO 300mm POD Wood Handboard - Cedar and Walnut Bodysurfing Handplane
The WOO 300mm is a solid cedar and walnut POD® bodysurfing handboard sitting at the centre of the range. Its 300mm x 210mm planing surface offers a balanced feel across a wide range of wave conditions - enough lift and control for open-face surf, responsive enough for smaller waves and tighter sections.
Speed comes from how you position, trim, and move through the water. The WOO works within that system, helping you hold speed, stay composed, and maintain control as conditions change.
Each WOO handplane is an individual piece. Natural variations in grain and colour mean no two boards are identical.
Where the WOO Works Well
The WOO suits intermediate to advanced bodysurfers who want a single handboard that adapts to a range of conditions. The size supports clean wave entry, stable trimming across the face, and controlled hold as pressure builds.
- Intermediate to advanced bodysurfers seeking a consistent, all-round handboard
- All-round conditions from smaller waves through to open-face surf
- Balanced lift and control without excess buoyancy or restriction
Cedar and Walnut - POD Wood Construction
Like all POD wooden handplanes, the WOO reflects decades of refinement in both design and construction. A solid walnut centre acts as a structural stringer, delivering strength and stability, while lighter cedar wings contribute responsiveness and controlled flex.
This combination allows the board to respond naturally to movement in the water, maintaining sensitivity without sacrificing durability.
Each handboard is produced through CAD design, precision CNC machining, laser engraving, and careful hand finishing. Natural variations in grain and colour ensure no two boards are identical.
Palm Support, Strap System, and Bottom Shape
Every POD wooden handboard is shaped to support a natural swimming position and efficient transfer of force.
- Ergonomic palm support: A convex deck supports the natural curvature of the hand, reducing strain and helping maintain a relaxed swimming position. The hand sits directly above the pivot point and keel fin, allowing the board to work with your movement rather than against it.
- Purpose-built strap system: Custom 50 mm retainers secure a wide 65 mm double-padded neoprene strap. This distributes pressure evenly across the hand, improving comfort and maintaining a stable connection without over-tightening.
- Hydrodynamic bottom shape: A deep 18 mm concave with an integrated keel fin works with water flow to support lift, directional control, and cleaner movement across the wave. This helps you stay higher in the water and maintain speed once engaged.

Care and Longevity
Proper care ensures your wooden handboard continues to perform and age naturally.
- Strap advice: Adjust the strap once to a snug fit. For regular use, slide your hand between the strap and the deck to preserve Velcro longevity.
- Protective storage: Supplied with reusable foam packaging and hemp drawstring cover for protection against impact and moisture.
- Avoid excess heat: Do not leave the board in hot cars or direct sunlight. Heat affects timber and protective finishes.
- Inspect and maintain: Check for signs of wear and recoat with marine-grade satin when required.

Your Partnership with the Board
The WOO moves with you in the surf. It responds to your position, your timing, and how you engage with the wave.
In return, your POD® original will support flow, control, and consistency across years of use.
A Legacy of Bodysurfing Design
Since the 1980s, POD founder and designer Shane Vassallo has shaped and refined handboards - bodysurfing handplanes, hand planes, and handboards across cedar, walnut, and limited timber species. That design lineage spans over 35 years of hands-on experimentation in real surf conditions and is documented in Successful 30 Years.

New Woodie
Excellent made handplane, so much attention to details, palm hold is so comfortable, nice wide hand strap, I have another handplane like a plaited/braid strap its why to thin and cuts into my hand. the pod strap is so comfortable, the board is really great to swim with and holds me well on the wave I never experienced before. Thanks Shane
