Carried Dry - 25L Backpack and Handcrafted Cedar Handboard
The POD 25L Waterproof Backpack and Handcrafted Cedar Handboard pair a durable carry system with a limited-production timber handplane. Each cedar board is individually numbered and hand-coated in marine varnish to last years of regular ocean use. It comes in its own neoprene drawstring bag, which slides straight into the backpack alongside your fins and towel. Roll the top closed, and the whole load travels sealed against water and sand, to the beach and home again.
POD Waterproof Backpack 25L
A timber board deserves a dry ride home, and the 25L gives it one. The bag is heavy-duty 500D PVC tarpaulin with every seam heat-welded electronically, so no stitching lets water creep through. Inside, there's 25 litres of room, enough for the cedar board in its neoprene bag, plus a towel or a pair of fins.
Roll the top forward three times to seal it airtight and watertight. Then choose how to fasten it. The top buckle gives you quick access throughout the day, and the side compression straps pull the load tight for longer carries. Sealed correctly, the bag floats.
Your phone and valuables go in the front pocket, behind an IPX6-rated zipper. That rating means it withstands water jets of 100 litres per minute at a minimum of 15 psi from any direction for up to three minutes. Its ends are moulded and sealed rather than cut from a roll, which closes the one gap a zip can leave open.
Padded shoulder straps and a back panel both let air through, and an adjustable chest strap keeps the load steady. A carry handle and two D-rings give you more ways to carry the bag and clip on gear.

POD Original Handcrafted Cedar Handboard
Turn the board over, and you'll find a number. It records where this board sits among everything Shane Vassallo has shaped by hand since the late 1980s, and the year he made it. Every board starts as a piece of select-grade Australian cedar, so the grain, colour and weight come out slightly different each time. Yours won't match anyone else's.
Shane builds the finish in at least eight coats of marine varnish, sanding lightly between each one. The result is a tough, water-resistant shell with a satin feel under the hand. When it's not in the water, the board lives in the black neoprene drawstring bag it comes with.
On the wave, the convex deck settles into your palm. Underneath, a concave hull and keel fin guide the water along the board, adding to the lift your hand makes and keeping the board from slipping down the face. The shape also turns spray away from your eyes, so you can see the wave you're riding.
